Our Fundraising Approach:
Y.E.S. Campaign

 

As a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), our goal is to help our students and their families have the best possible year of school, full of community and togetherness and joy.

Over the years, the PTO has played an increasingly vital role at Calabash by filling the gap created by budget cuts and district limitations, and raising money to support programs that are essential to a well-rounded education. For 2023-24 the Calabash PTO will fund:

  • All supplies and equipment for our STEAM/Science Lab

  • A comprehensive TK-5th grade arts education program (includes theatre, fine arts, music, ballroom dance, etc.)

  • Weekly supplemental P.E. classes with a focus on outdoor fun

  • Field trip/mobile assembly allowances for all grades

  • All supplies and plants for our campus garden

  • Supplies and books for our school library

  • Classroom improvements and campus beautification projects

  • Professional development expenses not covered by LAUSD

  • Community and family events for our Calabash community

  • A donation to the 5th grade fund, helping to fund end of year festivities

If the above sounds like a lot, that’s because it is!
Our proposed budget for the 2023/24 school year is ~ $140K.

Our biggest source of income is our Y.E.S. Fund (Yearly Educational Support), whereby we ask families for a one-time annual donation that fits their budget, with a suggested donation is $350/child. This donation is a critical source of funding for us to fund the programs that make this school so special. We hope all our new TK/Kinder families will consider making a pledge in support of our PTO; for our new families, it represents a fraction of one month’s preschool tuition and helps cover our expenses for the entire year.  If you’re able to pledge more, that’s terrific! We have pledge incentive at various tiers, and pledges can be made via a lump sum payment or spread over monthly installments to make giving more affordable. Y.E.S. Fund brochures that provide all the details will be sent home with your child during the first week of school, and we roll out our Y.E.S. Month fundraising campaign every year in September.

Though fundraising is an important function of the PTO, we work just as hard organizing fun events that help keep our Calabash families connected. We have several free family events throughout the year, and 4 non-fundraiser family events (Mother/Daughter, Mother/Son, Father/Daughter & Father/Son). We hope you will join us in helping support Calabash PTO!
